GLOMUS CAMP NEPAL 2024

From October 19–29, 2024, GLOMUS Camp took place at Gokarna Forest Resort, Kathmandu, bringing together 165 participants from 23 countries for ten days of focused artistic exchange.

Hosted by the Nepal Music Center, the camp created a practical and collaborative space for musicians, dancers, theatre-makers, filmmakers, and educators to work across cultures. The structure was simple but effective: intensive workshops during the day, performances in the evening, and constant dialogue in between.

Workshops in music composition, choreography, film, and storytelling were led by both international and Nepali artists. The emphasis was on collaboration rather than presentation — participants worked in mixed groups, tested ideas quickly, and developed new material within a short timeframe. The process encouraged risk-taking, adaptability, and shared authorship. Each evening featured showcases representing different continents, highlighting the diversity within the camp itself. Beyond the stage, informal jam sessions and discussions extended the learning environment, allowing collaborations to evolve organically.

Cultural visits to Boudhanath and Bhaktapur provided context to Nepal’s heritage and gave participants time to reflect on how place influences artistic identity.

Community engagement was central to the camp’s design. Participants collaborated with elderly residents from a local old age home, culminating in a shared presentation of music and movement, while school children under 14 from local institutions joined selected sessions to learn directly from international faculty. Alongside 109 international guests, 68 Nepali participants took part as non-residential contributors , a group that included both senior music and theatre students and younger school children , ensuring the exchange was intergenerational, inclusive, and firmly rooted in the local community.

GLOMUS Camp 2024 demonstrated that meaningful intercultural collaboration depends not on scale, but on openness, structure, and the willingness to work together.
